Level, Systems and Game Designer

System Design

Although Level Designer is my Main title. I wanted to participate in the effort to bring some life to our levels, usually by reaching out to VFX Artists, Animators and Narrative Designers to make those ideas look good. The objective was to give the player more options to express themselves and have fun while at it.

  1. Wolfenstein Youngblood
    1. Fire Hydrants
    2. Drop Tower
    3. Destroyable Zeppelins
  2. “DEATHLOOP”
    1. Fireworks and Firecrackers
    2. Candy Machines
  3. More…
    1. But I can’t talk about it. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Wolfenstein Youngblood

Fire Hydrants

Wolfenstein features an electric gun, meant to spread to other NPCs, but why not pushing it a little further? Shooting at Fire Hydrants that were only meant to be set as props in the maps will propel nearby enemies but water will also flood the ground, giving a great opportunity to fry whoever stands on it.

Early prototype of the Hydrant.
I added a few situations where for example shooting a fire hydrant could also stop a fire and provide loot.
Can it be even goofier? Yes of course. Here’s a prototype of the Laser Gun used in Paris’ Seine River.

Drop Tower

Setup of a prototype for the Drop Tower Level System.

Destroyable Zeppelins

Not a System per se but a funny detail. Having Zeppelins all over Paris’ sky while obtaining ridiculously enormous guns from NPCs wouldn’t be fun without being able to do THAT:

“DEATHLOOP”

Fireworks and Firecrackers

Fireworks and firecrackers props were planned for DEATHLOOP but only as cosmetic elements. I work alongside Game Design team to add some script to them and transform them into full fledged environment hazards and tools for combat and stealth.

It led to emergent situations with player’s own ideas:

So I tried sticking grenades to a firework… from Deathloop

Candy Machines

Similarly as Fireworks, Candy Machines were just supposed to be inert props. I made a quick prototype to push those cute machines further then got in touch with Animation team for the goofy movement + VFX team for the candies themselves and here is the result.

But I can’t talk about it. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
